Manuscript Guidelines

We accept manuscripts year-round. If you are interested in submitting your work to us, please read and follow the guidelines below. We do not accept manuscripts, queries, illustrations, or other submissions via e-mail.

Our company's mission is to encourage the appreciation of nature and the environment. Every book we publish must fulfill this mission. We generally publish in only one area—pet birds and other animals—which includes parrots, pigeons, poultry, waterfowl, peafowl, farm animals, and small animals. It may be helpful to research what books Silvio Mattacchione & Co. has previously published so that you may determine whether or not your proposal fits with what we do. If your book does not fit into our guidelines, please do not submit it to us.

All manuscript submissions should include a query letter containing a description of your book and information about you as the author. As part of your proposal, we would like you to tell us the market for your book:

1)  What similar books are already out there?

2)  How have those books sold?

3)  How is your book different from these?

4)  What are some additional markets your books could sell to, aside from retail bookstores?

5)  What are you willing to do in order to promote the book?

Please note we prefer to see complete manuscripts. You may send sample illustrations to give us an idea of the artwork.

We require a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for reply or return of your manuscript; please be sure there is adequate postage as we cannot return your work if there is not. Also please note: Silvio Mattacchione & Co. will not be held responsible for lost or misdirected manuscripts, photos, or artwork, so please do not submit originals.

We regret that we are not able to answer all the phone calls we receive regarding the status of proposals. If you follow these guidelines, you will either receive a phone call from us (if we are interested in your proposal), or your proposal will be sent back with a letter (if we are not interested). It can take up to six to eight months for a response and/or return of your work. We appreciate your patience and thank you for considering us as a possible publisher of your work.
